11 of the oldest settlements and cities in the world

Depending on the definition of the term "city", we can discuss the number of ancient settlements that we could include in list of the oldest cities on Earth. The city is a settlement geographically defined for which there is a characteristic set of features such as habitation, shops and an administrative center. The city is also equipped with a sewer system and a law system. Other factors include the number of inhabitants, the number of buildings, the level of administration, the fortifications and the population density.

Based on this definition, I have compiled the 11 list of the oldest cities on Earth

1) Damascus

Damascus is now the capital of Syria. It has a long history and according to scientists, the beginning of the town dates back to the period around 10 000 years BC For thousands of years it has been an important cultural, commercial and administrative center.

2) Jericho

Jericho is almost as old as Damascus. Archaeologists dug the ruins of twenty settlements in Jerich and found that they date more than 11 000 years BC The city is one of the oldest cities on Earth. The first people settled in Jericho 9 000 years BC

3) Eridu

Uruk is the legendary town of King Gilgamesh. Uruk is rightfully on the list of the oldest cities on Earth. It was founded by King Enmerkar. 7) Aleppo
