Avi Loeb: First contact with aliens

If you ever thought about what the first contact with aliens would be, you are not alone. In Hollywood, this contact was presented in various ways, such as films like Invasion of Body Snatchers (1951) A close encounter of a third species (1977) to NA (1982) Independence Day (1996) to Arrival (2016)

It is good to recall the words from Carl Sagan's novel Astrophysics from 1985:

“The universe is a pretty big place. If only we were here, it would be an unnecessary loss of space. ”

Avi Loeb and contact with aliens

It seems Avi Loeb, Chairman of the Harvard Astronomical Unit, agrees. In an interview with Der Spiegel, he gives his opinion on how he thinks the world and the universe around us are big.

“If you think about the history of mankind, you will see how man and mankind have evolved. Man tends to his family, to the tribe, to his country, to get closer to people from another continent. Everything goes forward. Finding other beings from other worlds would be the next step for humanity. I cannot tell you what this moment of discovery will look like, but it will be shocking. We often imagine that these beings are similar to us, but they may be radically different. ”

In 2017, Loeb thinks it's hard to see what's happening with other planets for so long.

“We should invest in building better observatories and look for other ways to send and catch signals of extraterrestrial civilization. And these signals may not just be about communication, they could be artifacts on the planet's surface. "

Meeting with extraterrestrial civilization

It is not entirely clear whether Loeb refers to objects on the surface of other planets or on the planet Earth (for example, Stonehenge or other architectural structures that are controversial and there is a presumption that these buildings were built with extraterrestrial civilization). Though a lot of people want it, there is a chance that a meeting with extraterrestrial civilization on Planet Earth will throw our Earth into total chaos. Such an event would be a shock not only for politicians but also for humanity itself. It could be threatened by the economy and all religions.

For example, Christianity teaches that people are the culmination of God's creation, so we can ask how extraterrestrial beings fit into this creation. Also, if aliens die - where will they go? Heaven or Hell? No matter what might happen, we know that meeting with extraterrestrial communication would be one of the most important events in human history.
