A group of Chinese archaeologists has discovered a rare tortoise-shaped tomb. They believe that the tomb is 800 years old and well preserved, as it probably contains what was left in it a few generations ago.

The tomb was discovered by chance by one of the residents of Shangzhuang Residence in Shanxi Province while repairing the foundations of his house.

Scientists believe that the tomb belongs to the Jin Dynasty (around 1115 to 1234 AD) measures 4 meters in height and contains an octagonal burial chamber. From the main room, passages lead to the side chambers, which are located to the north, northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast.

The hexagon-shaped design and side chambers give the whole complex the shape of a turtle in plan.

Inside the chamber there are 21 drawings on the walls where the three are always on one of the walls. Archaeologists suggest that it might be about cult symbols that refer to folk tales of a long past.

Archaeologists have explored that the tomb has been used by several generations. Tomb archaeologists are still studying to find out more information. There are still a lot of things worth looking for in order to find out more about the Jin dynasty.

The finding of this tomb suggests that there could be more such places in the area - more similar burial grounds. More excavations could yield more archaic finds. Although the question is whether and when something similar will be discovered. This is usually a coincidence, as in the case of the turtle's tomb.

Sueneé: Whenever our current archaeologists discover something like this, they wonder whether to dig or let it be, or when to just look and let it be. Those people were buried there with the idea of a peaceful rest for eternity. Today's archaeologists are actually very precise tomb robbers. :)

Hexagon and flower of life

Hexagon and flower of life

More than a moral context, the discovery itself is interesting in the article. This is undoubtedly a (so far) unique case where some artificially created space has been discovered, which has the shape of a hexagon. Again, we should ask the question about the purpose. Whether it was really just an extravagant tomb from the beginning, or whether the building itself had another purpose that disappeared over time. Subsequently, the space served as the last refuge - an easy burial ground.

This is the same problem as in many places in Egypt.

From the description of the Chinese find, it is clear that archaeologists are again leaning towards familiar phrases: "it was used for religious purposes." From a mystical point of view, the hexagon hides in itself Flower of Life, so we can speculate whether the ancient builders tended to operate with sacred geometry and associated forces.

Was it really a tomb from the beginning, or one of our unknown technology?
