The 1,4-meter-tall statue of Pharaoh Menkaure and his queen was found in a hole dug by modern treasure hunters. It was below room level in the Valley Temple. The temple is located near the so-called Menkaure Pyramid in Giza.

In excavations carried out by the Harvard University and the Fine Arts Museum, the Boston expedition led by archaeologist George Reisner (1908-1910) on 18.01.1910 kicked off the heads first, and the rest of the sculpture the following day.
