Egypt: unfinished boxing

It was Chris Dunn, who most probably as the first mechanical engineer, pointed out that some Egyptian artifacts bear markings of machining.

In the following video, you can see one of many cases. The hitherto unknown technology, which with its aspects resembles some of the modern machine tools, drilling and cutting machines, was used to process a large block of stone into the shape of a box or, if you like, a bathtub.

The work was terminated prematurely for some reason, as we can see the unfinished cut on the outside underside. Notice how deep the notch goes. Something like this could currently be done with either a large circular saw or a band saw. Traces of the tool can be seen on the stone. We can also see the indicated line where the machine was to go.
