Imhotep was an Egyptian scholar who deserves to be recognized as the historical archetype of a polyhistor, sage, physician, astronomer, and as the first known architect ever (c. 2690 - 2610 BC). At the time of the third dynasty of ancient Egypt, he was the high priest in Heliopolis, the vision of Pharaoh Džoser and the man who designed the stepped pyramid at Saqqara.

The name Imhotep could be translated as "he that cometh in peace“. He was not only a doctor, but also an architect and astronomer. This means that he had to have practical knowledge of arithmetic and geometry in order to be able to move in these fields.

Imhotep was titled as: Guardian of the Seal of the King of Lower Egypt, First after the King of Upper Egypt, Administrator of the Grand Palace and High Priest of the God Ré in Helipolis. According to the inscription on the statue of Pharaoh Djoser found in Saqqara, Imotep was also a builder, sculptor and manufacturer of stone vessels.. No one in front of him had a written name next to the pharaoh.

Imhotep was worshiped as a demigod in the New Kingdom

In his historical records, he was called a polyhistor, poet, judge, builder, magician, writer, astrologer, and above all as a doctor. According to the famous English egyptologist and Sir Alan Gardiner, Imhotep's cult was very different from the common ways of worship in the New Egypt Empire.

However, it is interesting that no texts have ever been found that would celebrate his abilities and knowledge at the time he lived. The first written reference referring to Imhotepa dates from Amenhotep III (about 1391 - 1353 before AD). Evidence of extensive medical knowledge Imhotepa comes from the 30 period. dynasty (about 380 - 343 before AD), about 2200 years after his death.

Imhotep

Imhotep's cult center is located in Memphis. His tomb has not yet been found, although many scholars have tried to find it. Most of them think the tomb is hidden somewhere in the Sakkara.

God of medicine

Not only did Imhotep be worshiped as a demigod, he was also promoted to the god of medicine and healing. He was also compared to Egyptian god Thovt, who was the god of architecture, mathematics, medicine, and patron of writers.

Builder pyramid

Besides extensive knowledge, Imhotep was also considered the first ancient builder of Egyptian pyramids. Egyptians believe that he himself designed the Djoser pyramid. The construction of this pyramid had to be mined, transported and processed thousands of tonnes of limestone, which was a great challenge. By this time, this material was not used for large buildings. They used unheated clay bricks, which were lighter and cheaper to produce.

During the construction of the pyramid, Imhotep faced a great deal of trouble. The biggest technical problem was the weight of limestone stones. He partially solved it by using relatively small blocks that were easier to transfer and manipulate. Pillars were either beautified or fixed to the walls without having to carry large weight. It is also worth mentioning that the metal parts of the tools used copper that is not very suitable for this type of work.

Vizier

Faron's Vizier also had to organize all the building processes, control the work, the movement and the lives of hundreds of workers. He also had to build the first burial city surrounded by walls long about 1500 with a large number of decorative buildings including the 6 60 pyramid high XNUMX meters. He personally oversaw both the construction of the pyramid and the excavation work under the pyramid. He also looked at the construction of the gallery, which was intended to store thousands of burial vessels. Many of them wore the names of their ancestors.

The step pyramid designed by Imhotep is considered to be the oldest stone building, although at about the same time pyramids arose in South America. Many scientists value the use of stone pillars to support the building. But there are a lot of questions that are not answered ... Where did Imotep draw their knowledge? By whom or what was he taught? How did he acquire this knowledge?
