About 35 km north-east of the town of Gaya (Bihar) in the middle of a completely flat green-yellow plain rises a low rocky ridge about 3 km long. Its central part is known for its ancient Indian man-made caves and a group of rocky hills called Barbara.

About one and a half kilometers to the east are other similar caves that belong to the same historical period as Barabar - on the rocky hill of Nagarjuna.

These are most often two places, which are referred to as: "Barbara Caves". There are a total of seven caves.

Officially, the caves date back to the time of the great Mauryan Empire. They are believed to have been built during the reign of Emperor Ashoka (268-232 BC) and his successor, Dasarathy (232-225 BC). Together with the two Bhandar Son caves in Rajgir, these are the oldest ancient cave temples in India.

On the southern side of the western cliffs, which is located almost symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the rock with Karan chaupar, is known as Sudama.

The entrance to Sudam is a perfect rectangular opening, like Karan chaupar. The first of the rooms measures 10 x 5,8 meters and is 3,6 m high. This space is parallel to the east wall.

Accuracy and precision of cave walls is absolutely amazing. Smooth surfaces with regular geometry.

Rock Temple in India

Exact dimensions according to the book on temples in India

On the right side to the east of Sudamské cave is the famous Rishi Lomas. It is known primarily because it has an artificially shaped entry portal.

Lomas Rishi Cave, like Sudama, consists of two rooms (rectangular and round), but in this case the cave appears as if for some reason necompleted. The room of the second room is not round round but is oval.

Judging by the dimensions (length - 10-11,1m, width - 5,2 m, diameter of circular space - 5,2 m), it can be assumed that Lomas Rishi was mistaken as a copy of the Sudamian Cave. (It would certainly be interesting to know what is in the acoustics room. It reminds me of some spaces in pyramids in Egypt.)

The exact time, when the cave was not completed, and especially why, is not known.

There are a number of rectangular projections on the rock on the surface

Vishvadzhopri (Višva Zopri, Visvajhopri) - The fourth cave of Barbara - is about half a kilometer away from the first caves - Karan chaupar.

It is not a matter of great interest to visitors because it looks not only unfinished, but it could be said that they did not even get it right. Still, we can see places with perfectly perfect granite processing.

There are a number of rectangular cutouts on the surface of the rock.

On the wall of the entrance to the corridor is a famous inscription from the Mauryan period. He says that the successor of Ashoka Dasaratha donated these caves to the Ajivik sect.

It is likely, however, that the caves are much older than the written records.

Cave Nagarjuna is located a few kilometers from Barbara. The cave has a length of 14,2 m, width 5,9 and height of about 3,2 m. Both side walls are curved.

In this area there are a large number of stacked stones. Their shape resembles a LEGO building set. It is very similar to the Indian city of Hampi.

Cave inscription in India

Interestingly, in Egypt, we find pyramids in the underground protractors room that seem unfinished. Yet they have phenomenal acoustics. The very concept of monolithic construction is also known by Ethiopian temples or at the most famous temple in Petra (Jordan).
