You probably know that there are plenty of monuments in the Armenian territory of the ancient civilizations that once existed. The age of some sites is several millennia. But most of all, it attracts scientists and tourists to the megalithic complex Karaund, otherwise also Zorac Karer.

So far, there have been disputes over its purpose. The researchers, however, agreed that it is very similar to the famous Stonehengi.

The huge megalithic complex of Karaund is located in the south of Armenia near the town of Sisijan, on a plateau at an altitude of 1700 meters. This mysterious building covers an area of ​​about seven hectares and is in the form of a circle composed of hundreds of large vertically built stones. Maybe that's why the locals call it the Standing or Rising Stones.

The name Karaund was given a megalithic monument by radiophysicist Paris Herouni. Translated from Armenian: kar = stone, undž = sound, speak, that is, sounding, speaking stones. Previously, the complex was called Zorac Karer, or powerful stones, or stones of strength.

Megalith architecture

Caraund can be divided into several parts: the central ellipse, the two branches - the north and the south, the northeast alley - the stone valley that intersects the central ellipse, and the standing stones. The height of stones ranges from 0,5 to 3 meters and the weight is in 10 tons.

The monoliths are made of basalt and are already marked by time and covered with moss. Almost every stone has a carefully drilled hole in its upper part.

The central ellipse (45 x 36 meters) consists of 40 stones, in the middle of which are ruins on an area of ​​7 x 5 meters. It was probably a shrine where rituals were held in honor of the god Areva (personification of the Sun). The ancient temple of Areva near Yerevan covers the same area. But there is another version, namely that in the middle of the building stood a tall dolmen, which was a mound.

According to scientists, the stones were brought from a nearby quarry, and the tied ropes were erected with the help of draft animals. The holes were drilled at the destination.

Karaund has attracted researchers only relatively recently, and until then, unfortunately, he had been exposed to the destructive effects of time. The exact age of the building has not yet been determined. Scientists have several variants: 4, 500 and 6 years. Some of them even believe that the complex is still much older and date its creation to the middle of the 500th millennium BC

Ancient Observatory

It is not possible to unambiguously determine the purpose of Karaundja. If we proceed to the variant that its age is 7 years, it would mean that it was built in the Stone Age. Of course, there are a number of hypotheses, both real and fantastic. For example, the place was used as a burial ground or as a shrine to worship the gods, or it was something similar universitywhere the sacred knowledge was given to the chosen one.

The most widespread version claims that it was the oldest and largest observatory. Conical holes in the upper parts of the stones testify in favor of this variant. When we examine them carefully, we find that they are directed to certain points on the vault of heaven.

The stone is very suitable for these purposes, it is heavy and hard and thus can ensure the stability of the position of the holes directed towards a certain goal. Researchers believe the holes were drilled with obsidian-tipped tools.

With the help of the stone observatory, our ancient ancestors could not only observe the movement of celestial bodies, but also find out when it is appropriate to start cultivating the soil, harvesting or when is the best time to travel.

Still, it remains a mystery as to where that knowledge came from, or when they were passed on. In order to construct such an observatory, it is necessary not only to be able to interpret and use the obtained observation results, but also to handle mathematical and astronomical calculations.

Interestingly, the layout of the Karaundja stones practically creates the same picture as the layout of the Chinese pyramids. And from a height we can see that the central monoliths copy the swan constellation scheme; each stone corresponds to a certain star. Proponents of this hypothesis are convinced of the existence of a highly developed civilization, which in this way recorded a map of part of the starry sky in stone.

The question arises: why the constellation Swans, and not - for us more common to orient, the Ursa Major? The positions of the stars were different at that time, because the Earth's axis was also located in different position compared to the current one.

More recently, another version of the use of Karaundz has appeared. This huge structure was a spaceport and can be supported by arguments. First, the convenient location relative to the equator, which simplifies the launch of spacecraft; secondly, it was not necessary to fundamentally modify the starting area, the rock platform meets the requirements (it can be seen that it was still slightly leveled).

In addition, some megaliths depict some beings and even a floating disk. These images can be interpreted as a record of Earthlings' encounters with extraterrestrial visitors or with representatives of ancient civilizations, such as the Atlanteans and the Hyperboreans, which could be quite possible in the Caucasus.

Many think that the Karaund is still used as a spaceport; locals can often see spheres of light that resemble spherical lightning and head for megaliths. There is another interesting fact, some of the monoliths have electromagnetic fields. Perhaps they acquired this property and retained it from the times of the ancient spaceport.

Another, very surprising fact, scientists were discovered only recently. Karaund does not survive in one place. Experts calculated that the rocks of the megalithic complex are shifting annually by 2 - 3 millimeters westward, as if in the direction of the earth's axis.

There is one possible mystery, not yet discovered. The stone building lies on the same meridian as the Chinese pyramid. Accident or result of accurate calculations?

Armenian Stonehenge

In the opinion of mathematics, a candidate for natural sciences, Vačagana Vagradiana, there is a certain link between Karaund and Stonehenge.

He even believes that the builders of Stonehenge came to Britain from Armenia and brought with them the cultural heritage of their Armenian ancestors. This is because the Caucasian megalith is almost 3 years older than the British one.

When asked by a journalist why he compares these two buildings, the scientist replied:

"The reason is their structural and functional resemblance, even the names' coincidence," said academician Paris Herouni. And Stonehenge is known to have been used as an observatory for astronomical observations.

In both Stonehenge and Karaundi, there is a corridor between the stones, which was used to determine the summer solstice, which then made it possible to determine other important seasons. Both buildings are built of stones, laid out in a certain arrangement, but in ours there are openings leading to certain points in the sky.

In the center of the complex, the stones are ellipsoid and are without holes, and it points out that the builders of the two megaliths came from the same culture. "

Skeptics believe this parallel have invented those who are trying to attract tourists to Armenian Stonehenge, because apart from the age and similarity of the names, there is no other evidence of the Armenian origin of the British.
