Researchers have discovered a huge pyramid in Mexico - larger than the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan. Researchers in Mexico have found a pyramid that is, according to the first measurements, larger than the Great Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan. Initial excavations were made in 2010.

The pyramid, which is a large 75 meter in height, has been explored by experts from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) at the Tonina Acropolis of Chiapas, and is estimated to be approximately 1700 years old.

Emiliano Gallaga, director of the archaeological zone, explained that the work had been done over the last two years, and the scientists were confirmed that one of the largest buildings in Mezoamerice is in the northeastern part of the site, which is comparable to the size of large Mayan cities such as Tikal El Mirador in Guatemala.

Another feature that makes this "unique" pre-Hispanic building stand out from the rest is the seven platforms that are connected - specific spaces that were to serve as palaces, temples, houses, and administrative units. "It is a unique structure for various specific functions within the social, political, economic and religious structure, which is not repeated in any other archaeological site in the Mayan world," said a researcher from INAH.

"It is a great surprise to realize that the pyramid was created almost exclusively by pre-Hispanic architects and, therefore, is more artificially created than natural. It is because it was previously believed that the entire structure was a natural hill, but recent evidence has shown that the building was almost completely built by ancient inhabitants. "

Archaeologists add that the pyramid is larger than we expected. The building is connected by the paths that are located on the top of the elevations.

Gallaga added that, after we got all this information, we can confirm that this pyramid exceeds its height of the Pyramid of the Sun on Teotihuacan, which measures 65 meters. Researchers at the National Institute of Anthropology and History have determined that the city center had an architectural link between 10 and 12 hectares, double the previous one, and mostly corresponds to the southern side of Acropolis, one of the most important Mayan regions known to researchers.
