Howard Wiseman, a physicist at Griffith University in Brisbane, and his colleagues introduced a new idea called the "Many Interacting Worlds Hypothesis" (MIW). Howard argues that the idea of parallel universes in quantum mechanics has existed since 1957. In this hypothesis, each universe branches into a pile of new universes each time quantum measurements are made. So all the possibilities are realized - in some universes, the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs missed the Earth. In others, Australia was colonized by the Portuguese.
