It is a bronze disk from the Bronze Age from Central Europe using gold. It's called the Nebra Sky Drive. It seems to be a representation of astronomical phenomena in the symbols of a religious object.

The world scientific community considers this to be the case the oldest representation of the heavens. Therefore, this disc is one of the most important archaeological findings of this period. Age of Sky Disc is estimated at 3700 to 4100 years.

Toušírování (also tausage) is artistic and especially handicraft technique, in which we coldly weave some metal with metal of another color.

Subsequent gradual processing of gold by the tugging technique, the anticipated dating shifts to 3600 years. The disk was probably used for religious purposes.

Since June 2013, Nebra Sky Disk has been inscribed on the World Heritage List in Germany.

Let's introduce Nebra Sky Disk in more detail

The Nebras disk is a very well-preserved bronze disk with a diameter of about 32 cm with golden incrustations of the Sun, Moon and Stars, dating from the early Bronze Age, probably from 16. century BC. It was part of a treasure found in 1999 near Nebra (Saxony-Anhalt), about 60 km west of Leipzig. It is the oldest known sky display and one of the most recent archaeological finds of the past. It also provides a new insight into astronomical knowledge and techniques of that time.

Since 2002, the disc has been an exhibit at the Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt) in Halle.

Bronze rough circular plate about 32 cm in diameter, in the middle of 4,5 mm and at the edge of 1,7 mm thick, weighs about 2 kg. The material, copper alloy and about 2,5% tin, comes from Salzburg (Austria). A golden incrustation is attached to the oxidized green surface, perhaps depicting the sun disk, the moon's crescent, and the 30 small circles, seven of which appear to be the Pleiades. In addition, an arc was represented by the same technique below, and two roughly the same segments on the opposite edges (the left segment is missing today). Honey is probably from Transylvania. The edge of the board is regularly perforated with 40 holes with a diameter of about 3 mm.

Disk Changes

Detailed research has shown that the disk has undergone several changes before saving. Because scientists assume that it was originally made sometime between the years 2100 BC and 1700 BC.

  • In the first phase he carried only the incrustated Sun (or the Full Moon), the Moon and the stars and was not perforated at the edge.
  • In the second phase, there were two segments on the edge of the board, which are thought to have been used to determine the season, the solstice, and the equinoxes. When the plate was oriented to a nearby Brocken peak, it determined the scattering segment of the possible sunrise and sunset positions (82 degrees), so he could see how the solstice or equinox approached. If this presumption is true, the board would perform a similar role as probably some stone buildings from older times.
  • In the third phase there was a lower arc whose sense is not noticeable. Some believe it could represent a "solar bar", as is known from other areas. More likely, however, it is the Milky Way.
  • Finally, she received a perforation board at the edge that might have been used to fasten or sew it.

Here are the individual phases:
