Nearly Egyptian pyramids have discovered dozens of mummies
05. 02. 2019Egyptian Minister of History and Monuments Dr. Khaled El-Enany announced the first discovery of 2019. In the archaeological site of Tuna El-Gebel near Egyptian pyramid Ptolematic funeral chambers have been discovered. They were filled with a great deal of mummies of different sizes and sexes.
Burial near pyramid
The burial site is reportedly dated from the Ptolemaic era of ancient Egypt (approximate to 323 BC to 30 BC). Inside the burial ground was found 40 well preserved mummies.
This eternal resting place near the Great Pyramid of Giza hid the mummies of men, women and children. All of them probably belonged to a large rich family. Some mummies were buried inside stone or wood sarcophagus, others were found alone on the floor.
This Tuna El-Gebel archeological site was discovered in February 2018, when a group of archaeologists noticed a tomb engraved in a rock. The tomb consists of a corridor leading to a sloping staircase, from which one enters a rectangular chamber full of mummies. Later there was another funeral hall and also a third chamber where more mummies were found. The age of the mummies was specified due to the age of the papyrus.
