Lacedaemon is the name of an urban state whose main municipality was Sparta.

In Greek epic myth Iliad Homer speaks of ten cities. Today, their names are preserved in the names of towns and villages throughout Greece. Archeology has already confirmed that a substantial part of these cities did exist, including the mythical Troy. Nevertheless, there is one city that is not much talked about in ancient Greece. There are no big links or references to it. This is the ancient city of Lacedaemon.

Archaeologists found a city in 2007 that they believe could be the ancient city called Lacedaemon. Unfortunately, any further investigation has been banned by the Greek government.
