Greek and Roman statues uncovered in Knidos

"Cut off the head" is a statement usually associated with Alice in Wonderland or Henry VIII. However, this term is also applicable to the recent discovery in Knidos. Archaeologists have uncovered five heads of marble statues from the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Knidos is a town located in the district of Datça in the Turkish province of Mugla. During ancient times, Knidos was a very developed city. He excelled in science, architecture and art. One of the five marble heads discovered was a woman. According to official reports, the head of the female statue belonged to the goddess Tyche. During the Hellenistic and Roman periods, the goddess Tyche was known as Defender of Cities.
