A group of international scientists, including the Czech section, has been working for several years in excavations at the archeological site where the towns of Sodom and Gomorrah were once located. Rock analysis shows the impact of a large explosion that scientists say would have to come from space.
The archaeological site is located near the Dead Sea in what is now known as Tall el-Hammam. The area became uninhabitable for a long time after the destruction of the cities.
According to Old Testament Bible stories, And the LORD was angry with the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, because of their subtilty; fornication. He decided to destroy the cities with fire and brimstone - level them. He allowed only a select few to leave: Lot and his wife and their daughters. He told them to hurry out of the city and not look back. Lot's wife she disobeyed and saw a huge cloud of fire, dust, and smoke billow over the cities. Destruction apparently overtook her because she turned into salt column.
