In 1944 in September, the country, which belongs to the Archipelago of the Land of Franz Joseph, made a truly unique discovery on the island of Alexandria. The mystery of the Nazis was found. Underground hideout for German submarines. But so far, there is no official information on this subject, just a few mentions in the media ...

Inaccessible cave

At the end of 50. the flight started on the peninsula of the Polar Flyers, near the former German aerodrome, building another Soviet airport. So far, it is unclear why it was decided not to use an already existing, well-laid and well-equipped runway ...

During the construction, ventilation shafts were found, where no one was paying attention at first. But then they were quite accidentally noticed by the pilots who looked at the German airport from above. They also noticed the entrance to the cave under the rock, but they could not descend because the tide started and the cave gradually disappeared under the water ... It was only later that 1944 had been known to be commander of the T-116 minesweeper, Captain VA Babanov .

Seeking the secret base of the Nazis

The minesweeper T-116, along with the murdered Murman, was sent to the Land of Franz Joseph and the North Island of New Earth "for the supply of winter supplies to the crew of the meteorological stations." Shortly before, T-116 sank a hostile German submarine U-362 in the Carribean Sea. Between her debris, she found a tortoise bag with some papers. Obviously, the commander had learned about the secret submarine base on the Arctic Island.

On Sunday, September 24, 1944, T-116 and Murman approached the icy edge, located fifty kilometers from Silent Bay (Francis Joseph Land). Then the ships split. Murman headed for the polar station on the ice, the minesweeper standing still waiting for her. It should be noted that Babanov was given another task: to search for secret Nazi bases. He had about a week before Murman returned, so he turned the ship toward Alexandra's land.

In the rocky depths

The testimony of this "way" is taken only from unofficial sources, from the memories of those with whom Babanov shared his discovery ... He is known to have gone down the narrow stone steps into the rock. Described a niche carved directly into the rock, comfortable timbered buildings, equipped with fireplaces and all hidden behind a camouflage net. Directly at the center of the base, the whale commander discovered two docks. One of them was a Demag crane, designed to handle mines and torpedoes. The second crane was used to repair and recharge the batteries. The electrical cables were fully functional.

Everything Babanov described corresponded perfectly with the descriptions of the submarines built by the Third Empire, as mentioned in the memoirs of Admiral Karel Dönitz. These buildings were generally divided into boxes, and each of them could have three or four submarines at the same time. The boxes were separated by strong reinforced concrete walls. From the sea, each of them was protected by massive gates, the thickness of which was more than eight meters. In these super-protected bunkers the submarines went through all stages of preparation for sailing, and the crews not only prepared for future operations, but they could relax here and there. There were warehouses with supplies and groceries.

The top secret location of the cave!

So where was the base found by Baban? Current investigators, who have come to the testimony of not only the Captain himself, but also Colonel I. Mazuruka, commander of the Polar Flight Team, have come to the conclusion that they need to be found on the shores of Pinegin's Lake and Dacia Bay, or near the eastern glacier of the island ... By the way, just in the ice field in the middle of 70. the US Atomic Submarine was discovered, the crew of which carefully studied the surrounding rocks. She was able to capture her at 2000 for the second time. What were the Americans looking for?

Babarov did not prepare an official written report on his findings. In any case, there are no references to the mysterious underground cave in Alexandr's country in the archives of the North Fleet Staff. Is it possible that these documents are still kept under the "Confidential" header?
