Newly appointed science and technology adviser in the administration of newly elected US President Donald Trump is University Professor David Gelernter at Yale. He attracted criticism last week during an exclusive interview for controversial statements for a scientific journal. Science Today.

David Gelernter has already won opponents thanks to his strong criticism of the space policy of the previous administration of President Barack Obama, which wanted to send a man to Mars in 2030.

Gelernter added fuel to the fire while talking to Science Today stated on the topic: How could we manage to organize a flight to Mars with an American crew in 2030, when we never even flew to the moon? The idea is ridiculous, as is the Obama administration, if I may add… The landings of the Apollo missions on the moon are the greatest deception in human history…

This is not the first time the professor has attacked authenticity a heroic epic about landing Americans on the moon. In one of his books published in 2012, he writes:

In modern times, we have never been out of range of our Earth's magnetic field. There is only one exception, which belongs to the 24 beings who completed lunar flights in Apollo missions. These took place over four years from 1968 to 1972. Other space flights (before and after) take place in the so-called Low Earth Orbit (LEO) or below. The international space station ISS also operates in the field of LEO.

Why is that so? This is because distances from Earth greater than LEO would lead to earlier damage to electronics under increased levels of cosmic radiation.

It was only at the beginning of the current millennium that NASA announced a serious interest in addressing the issue of the harmfulness of the Van Allen radiation bands surrounding the Earth to potential space travelers and their technical equipment. This in itself raises the (rhetorical) question: And what did you do in the '60s?

Despite his special statement, David Gelernter is a world-renowned scientist in the field of computer technology. Time Magazine in 2016, he named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 21st century. New York Times called it again rock star computer science and one of the best computer scientists and visionaries today.
