It is a huge complex of ancient underground corridors and corridors of interconnected rooms. The complex is reminiscent of one huge underground city where only 20000 people could live.

There is all the necessary background for life. There are storehouses for food, kitchens, temples, wine factory, water supply and ventilation shafts. It's all cut into a huge rock monolith.

Derinkuyu is located in Turkey in the region of Cappadocia. Contemporary archeology is not entirely clear who is the author of this city and to whom it actually served. Some believe that it originated in the 7th century BC. Unfortunately, there is no clear evidence for this dating.

Derinkuyu entranceThe city was probably inhabited by different generations of people at different times and under different circumstances. We can think of the existence of cave people, or a group of people who wanted to hide from some cataclysmic catastrophe. Some researchers also mention the possibility that it could be a cover in case the group is attacked by enemy forces.

Be that as it may, the original inhabitants (authors of Derinkuyu) of the city were clearly not in the habit of spending too much time in daylight, as the underground city was originally led by a single narrow entrance from the ground, which was also secured by a huge round boulder.
