Tutankhamen and his trumpet were found in the burial chamber. The trumpets, one made of silver and the other made of bronze, are considered to be the oldest functional trumpets in the world and also the only ones that have survived from the times of ancient Egypt.

Tutanchamon - finding trumpet

The trumpets were discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter. Both were played live for the first time in more than 3000 years for more than 150 million listeners via a BBC radio broadcast on April 16, 1939. The trumpets were played by James Tappern (Bandsman), a member of the 11th Royal Albert Hussar Regiment.

The recording was recently re-presented and can be heard on the BBC radio program in the series Ghost Music.

Zahi Hawass, former Minister of Egyptian Monuments and Egyptologist Hala Hassan, curator of Tutankhamun's collection at the Egyptian Museum, are of the opinion that these two trumpets have magical power and, apparently, the ability to call war.

The magic power of the trumpet

That evening, when they were played for the first time in 1939 in XNUMX, the power went out at the Cairo Museum five minutes before the broadcast began, and the BBC had to make a candlelight recording. Five months after being broadcast on radio, Britain entered World War II and the war in Europe began.

The trumpets are said to have been played again before the Six Day War in 1967 and before the Gulf War in 1990. The last time they played the bronze trumpet one weekend before the Egyptian Revolution in 2011 was an employee of the Cairo Museum for the Japanese delegation. This bronze trumpet was subsequently stolen from the Cairo Museum during the Egyptian riots and looting in 2011. Subsequently, a few weekends later, it was mysteriously returned to the museum.
