A statue of Venus from Roman times was discovered in England

This figure probably stood 1800 years ago in a shrine in the territory of today Gloucestershire. The finding of this statue is perceived as a good sign.

A valuable find

City archaeologist Andrew Armstrong for BBC News he said that this figure is in incredibly good condition and is a very valuable find. It was found before the construction of a commercial center called Forum (Interestingly, the word Forum was used in Rome to refer to a public square).

Archaeologist Armstrong says:

"We know that such pieces were made in central France and the German Rhineland / Moselle region during the first and second centuries AD. She most likely stood in the home shrine and was worshiped as a goddess. "

Venus

Venus is known for her love abilities. She was the Roman goddess of love, beauty, victory and fertility. Roman legions have conquered much of Britain in the past. Gloucestershire, located about 145 km west of London, was founded as a Roman fortress known as Glevum.

Dani Hurst of Cotswold Archeology explains that this is the most interesting find in her career. The figure provides evidence of an important and tangible connection between the people of Gloucester and their past.

The figurine is made of white clay, located along the Rhine and Meuse rivers. The statue lacks a base, otherwise it is completely intact. According to BBC News, the team also uncovered the stone foundations of buildings that may have belonged to a suburb outside the Roman fortress. The whole team is excited about the find and is looking forward to what other attractions it will come across in this locality.
