A new research by the Oregon State University talks that exhausted entrepreneurs can supplement their energy with mind-training, such as meditation.

Principal author of the study, Charles Murnieks, assistant professor of strategy and business at OSU, says:

"It is not possible to fully replace sleep by exercising the mind, but it is possible, to a certain extent, to compensate for this deficiency and at the same time relax. 70 minutes of exercise per week is enough, which is approximately 10 minutes a day. 70 minutes of exercise can replace up to 44 minutes of night's sleep. ”

The research results were published in the Journal of Business Venturing. Co-authors of this research are Jonathan Arthurs, Nusrat Farah, and Jason Stornelli of OSU; Melissa Cardon of University Tenesee and J. Michael Haynie of Syracuse University.

Business is freedom but also stress

Business can be uplifting, but of course also difficult, stressful and tiring.

Ch. Murnieks says:

"You can work hard, but not for a long time."

Generally speaking, if people feel exhausted, their efforts to achieve their job goals are falling. They have less effort to complete their work assignments and less manage other business and work challenges. Which is a problem for the business process.

Meditation can be one of the ways

Exhaustion is ubiquitous in business and in the process of new business plans. So far there are only a few studies and experience in research into the degree of exhaustion of this group of people and how they fight with exhaustion. In his research, Ch.Murnieks and co-authors of the work tried to explore how entrepreneurs cope with the exhaustion their work brings.

Rate of exhaustion by business people

In a study involving 105 entrepreneurs across the United States, research participants questioned their degree of exhaustion, whether they were involved in the exercise of consciousness, and if so, how long and how many hours they slept at night.

More than 40 percent of participants working 50 hours or more a week slept an average of 6 hours a night. The research then found that entrepreneurs who slept more or practiced with their minds reported a lower degree of exhaustion.

In a second study with 329, entrepreneurs once again asked for exercise with the mind, the amount of sleep and exhaustion. Even in this case, the ability to consciously fight exhaustion was confirmed.

However, in both studies, Ch.Murnieks and colleagues found that exercising with consciousness is less effective if the individual feels exhausted even with adequate sleep. If some people still feel extrovert, lack of energy in their jobs, their energy resources are exhausted.

Exercise of the mind

Dr. Ch. Murnieks says:

"If you feel under pressure and do not sleep, then exhaustion can be compensated by exercising the mind. However, if you do not suffer from a lack of sleep and you still feel exhausted, then your ability to concentrate can no longer be improved with this exercise. By exercising the mind and sleep, they reduce exhaustion in different ways. Exercise of the mind is able to reduce or reduce stress before it reaches a state of exhaustion. While sleep replenishes energy and increases the ability to concentrate after exhaustion has occurred. However, more research is needed to better understand how mind training can help tired entrepreneurs and where the limits of this improvement lie. ”

However, there are indications that this exercise has a positive effect on the state of exhaustion. So if you are starting out with a new business plan and want it to keep evolving, then exercise of the mind can be one of the things to relieve stress and thus preventing burnout.
