The universe is a wonderful place and below you can see the photos that prove it.

A small meteor in the Milky Way

See a small meteor in the Milky Way? Photographer Tony Corso was very surprised when he found a small trace of a meteor in Washington State. Look for a short stripe on the right edge of the Milky Way. The meteor was probably part of the Sothern Delta Aquarid or Alpha Capricornids meteor shower that peaked in July.

Dark Chasm

Here is an image from the Hubble Space Telescope. The formation in the image looks like a light jellyfish, in fact it is the planetary nebula NGC 2022. It is most likely gas from a dying red giant star. As the star disappears, its core shrinks and it emits ultraviolet radiation that illuminates its gas shell.

"Diamond Ring" over Argentina

In this picture, the sun sets behind the Andes mountains. The moon crosses directly in front of the sun, creating the effect of a "diamond ring" in the evening sky. Everything was captured in Argentina. Approximately 11 degrees above the horizon, a connection occurred that was visible to the naked eye. It created a connection with the Earth so close to the horizon.

Andromeda and Perseids

In this image, you can see two meteors moving through the sky near the Andromeda Galaxy (the closest galactic neighbor to the Milky Way). The picture was captured during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. The image also shows the small galaxy Messrom 110 Andromeda, which appears to be a blurry star (to the left of the bright nucleus).

Fire and fireballs over Macedonia

Pictured here are some bright Perseids near the fire in Macedonia. In the center you can see galaxies with four bright meteors and in the distance one smaller meteor is visible.

Milky Way over VISTA

The arc of the Milky Way Galaxy glitters over the European Southern Astronomy Observatory at the Paranal Observatory in Chile. The picture also shows a giant telescope at the top of the mountain.

"Seagull" in space

A bird-like dust and gas cloud flies through space about 3400 light years from Earth. It is known as the Seagull Nebula or Sharpless 2-296.

Cat Paw Nebula, or NGC 6334. A cosmic cloud of dust and gas with three distinct features in the shape of 'beans'.

NASA Telescope

During the test of the new space telescope, the technician made this photograph of the telescope's huge mirror from a smaller mirror. If you look closely, you can see a secondary mirror bouncing off the gold panels that make up the primary mirror of the telescope.

The edge of a spiral galaxy

What looks like a long, narrow stretch of stars is actually a spiral galaxy just like the Milky Way. From our position, we see only the edge of this galaxy. This galaxy is located 45 millions of light-years from Earth in the constellation Leo Minor.

Michael Hesseman: Meeting Aliens

If Earthlings have really encountered aliens, this is the most exciting and important topic of ufology. There is no doubt about their existence at all. But if aliens visit Earth, isn't the first question why they come and what we can learn from civilization at an obviously higher level?
