Lift into space

The Japanese want a space elevator, they can say they will put it in 2050.

Can we finally wait for the elevator in space? According to Obayashi, Japan, maybe it is. The space elevator will be used to transport astronauts and cargo to the orbit at a fraction of the price of today's rockets.

According to the Japanese vision, the space lift should reach up to the height of 96 000 km. The elevator will be connected to an orbital station that will be located on a geostationary orbit, 36 000 km above the Earth's surface. At 96 000 km, it then connects an orbital station with a counterweight. However, traveling by space elevator will not be the fastest. The journey from Earth to the orbital station will take a few days to lift. It is assumed that the lift will carry up to 30 people at a speed of 200 km / h.

If not the fastest, at least the cheapest.

In the case of launching missiles today, the cost of launching one kilogram of cargo on the orbit is around 22 000 USD. The space elevator wants to squeeze this amount to 200 USD. One of the ambitions of the space elevator is that it will create solar power plants (farms) in the orbit.

Lift should come from advances in carbon nanotechnology. At present, unfortunately, we can not produce such a long cable for the space elevator. Today we can produce nanotubes with a length of just over 3 cm. Researchers from Obayashi, however, believe that this problem will be solved in 15 years. The elevator should start building around 2030.

According to Obayashi, this futuristic elevator will represent a revolution in space travel. The company is now summoning a number of university experts across Japan and counts on a broad international involvement in the project. The functional lift should see the light of the world at the latest by 2050.

Let us hope that the ambitious plan is implemented. Personally, I think this is the way to orbit repair. As we know from history, every good idea should find its application, and if enough people think about this unique idea, I believe that our children will travel into orbit easily, thus opening the way for them from the isolation of the Planet and our solar system, and certainly continue….
