Half a century ago, a gigantic stone head was discovered, deep in the tropical forests of Guatemala. Face facing the sky, with large eyes, narrow lips and a distinctive nose. It is strange that this is a face of the Europoid type, which does not resemble any nation from pre-Columbian America. The discovery quickly caught attention, but just as quickly disappeared into oblivion.

Oscar Rafael Padilla Lara, a doctor of philosophy, a lawyer and a notary who first received a photograph of the head in 1987, spoke for the first time about the mysterious stone head.

A small article with a photograph was published in the "Ancient Heavens" bulletin, which was read by the well-known researcher and writer David Hatcher Childress. He sought out Dr. Padilla and learned that he knew the owner of the land where the stone heads were located, the Biener family, and that the statue was about 10 kilometers from the village of La Democracia in southern Guatemala.

Doctor Padilla had told him how desperate he was when he went and saw that his head was almost completely destroyed.

"About ten years ago, it was damaged by insurgents, they made a target out of it. We found out about the discovery too late. The face was much disfigured, like the Sphinx in Egypt, which the Turks shot in the nose, even more, "he said.

The eyes, nose and lips disappeared forever. According to Padilla, the height of the head was 4-6 meters. He could not return there later due to fighting between government troops and insurgents in the area.

She was quickly forgotten after the report of her headache, but she regained attention after the filming of "Mayan Revelations: 2012 and Beyond", where the photograph was used as evidence of contacts of aliens with ancient civilizations.

The director of the film published an article by the Guatemalan archaeologist Héctor E. Maji, who wrote: "I certify that the statue does not have the features of either the Mayan, the Aztec, the Olmec, or any other nation of pre-Columbian cultures, was created by civilization on a higher level than human.

This article, however, caused the opposite effect in a skeptical audience, many thought it was just an ad trick. And even doubted the authenticity of the photograph.

There are no signs that this could be a rampage. If a giant head really existed, then it remains unclear who created it and why.

Other stone heads staring at the sky have already been discovered in the area where it was found. These were carved by the Olmec civilization, which reached its heyday between 1400 - 400 BC The Olmecs lived on the Gulf Coast, but their works of art have been discovered in places that are hundreds of miles away from their home.

The head shown in our photo is by no means similar to the Olmec ones. Philip Coppens, a Belgian writer, radio and television publicist in the field of alternative history, presented a version that he was either the head of anomalies from the Olmec era or an artifact of another and unknown culture before or after them.

Researchers are also debating whether it is just a head, or whether the body is still underground, as in the case of the statues on Easter Island, and whether the finding is in some way connected with other buildings and statues in the region. In order to learn the truth about this mysterious sculpture, further research is needed.
