AGARES

Dictionnaire Infernal - Colin de Plancy (1863)

Although Aguares (another form of his name) commands thirty-one legions of hell, he belongs to the order of the Virtues. He appears in the form of an old man riding a crocodile, holding a hawk in one hand. It can force deserters to return and force enemies to flee. He can elevate a person in the spirit and teach him all the world's languages. The spirits of the earth also obey him, for he dances at his command.

He is referred to as the first Duke of the East (appearing at seven o'clock in the morning). It's under the influence of the Sun. He is not afraid of the outside: he is rather kind and moderate.

AHRIMAN

Ahriman in Zoroastrianism

In Zoroastrianism (the ancient Persian religion), Ahriman is one of the leading opponents of Ahura Mazda (similar to the Christian God). He is actually the first personification of the devil. The Persians professed so-called dualism, meaning that every good (Ahura Mazda) has its evil opposite (Ahriman).

Origin

Ahriman is the twin of Spenta Mainya (Holy Spirit). As in Christianity, the Devil was created by God, or Ahura Mazda.

Form

It can be described in one word: a lie. It also represents greed, anger and envy. He created a horde of destructive demons (daevas), each of which has one bad humanity trait. Despite creating chaos and suffering in the world, it is believed that it will eventually be defeated by its creator, Ahura Mazda, during Judgment Day. It is then that his underground realm shakes at its foundations, causing his demons to begin to devour each other. When there is none left, Ahriman's existence will end.

As for reincarnation, it can be seen in the form of a snake, lizard, scorpion or dragon. In some cases, however, he can take on the form of a handsome young man who tries to seduce both women and men. It also exhorts people to violence. And it is here that the image of Satan arises again, as the ruler of this world and the source of all evil.

As mentioned above, the underworld rules. He is also referred to as the ruler of darkness, the world on the other bank, evil, night and suffering.

The Ahriman's worshipers are called Ahrimanists, and their religious rituals are characterized by the sacrifice of animals and other bloody habits.
