During the Matah expedition (Mataha = Arabic labyrinth) In 2008, the team discovered a lost underground labyrinth. It is located in the Hawara region of Egypt. The colossal temple, which has long been covered by classical authors such as Herodotus and Strabo, contains more than 3000 rooms, their walls are covered with hieroglyphs and paintings.

The sand in the Hawara area has been studied in the past by a Belgian team of Egyptologists. In his work, he used very modern and powerful technology to uncover the secrets that lie beneath the surface. It is a set of buildings and a complex of corridors that are more than 2000 years old.

The labyrinth is located south of the pyramid of Amenemhat III. The pyramid itself is 58 meters high and its sides are 100 meters long. Egyptologists believe that the complex formed a mortuary temple to this pyramid and was also the basis of a mythical labyrinth, which the ancient historians speak of.

Herodotus visited the labyrinth in Roman times. The temple had two floors. In the lower one was a complex complex of corridors and rooms, and on the second floor there were 12 large ones palaces. In total, the object had more than 3000 rooms. The construction occupies an area approximately 304 x 244 meters.
