[lastupdate] For many millennia, a mine has been located in an area called Aswan in Egypt. There is a mine in the area, which is a source of red granite.

The photo shows a broken stone across the borehole. The diameter of the borehole itself is enormous (I estimate 20 cm?). But what is more important is that, according to the grooves, we can determine how quickly the drill has been cut into granite. It is based on 2 millimeters per revolution. Something like this requires more than a primitive instrument… :)

Mechanical engineer Chris Dunn states that a very hard drill (probably a diamond) using ultrasound and continuous pressure is needed for fast drilling.
