In ancient times, before the 5th century BC, near the Murgab River, there was a large city on the road (the Silk Road) that connected Europe and Africa in the Far East. The city was near the southern tip of the Karakun Desert.

The massive walls, probably the most important buildings from the entire urban development, still tower majestically above the surface of the desert, where the most important archeological site in the world is located under the sands. Nand the first look, judging purely by the photograph, although the most important, certainly does not give the impression that archaeologists are dealing with the site massively. If you have more information, please share. :)

Merv is currently located in present-day Turkmenistan. Not far from its ruins is the modern development of the city of Mary.
