The strange death of birds was recorded on February 16 in the city of Izmail in the Odessa region of Ukraine. About a hundred starlings suddenly fell from the sky into the alley leading to the harbor.

The photo was uploaded to social networks by eyewitnesses. The day before, thousands of starlings had flown over the city, returning from their winter quarters.

However, experts from various bodies could not provide specific explanations for the event. In the local emergency department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, they believed that the cause could be high levels of radiation, although measurements in Izmaila were within the norm.

And the Hygienic Station stated that the sudden death of the entire bird flock could not be a coincidence. Social network users believe that radar could be the cause of death.

The next version appears as a possible cause of bird poisoning.

"I am inclined to say that it was poison. If they all fell at once, it means that it caused a very effective poison, "writes Rusev. "If they were hit by a sound wave, other birds, even animals, and not just starlings, would respond. In this case, only one species suffered damage. They should have correctly handed over the birds to experts for expertise ", said Ivan Rusev, an Odessa ecologist and director of the Tuzlovská Lakes National Nature Park.

According to ornithologists, starlings are very active in searching for food. In winter, they mostly feed on city landfills, but it is possible that they may have been poisoned in the field.

"Right now, the fields are starting to be fertilized and treated with chemicals to protect against pests. It is possible that the starling flock was in one of these fields. There are also a lot of toxic substances in landfills that birds could ingest, "the expert summed up.
