Archaeologists did underground research around their heads and guess what they discovered? That heads also include bodies! These are covered in ancient and yet indecipherable writing called petroglyphs.

"The reason people think there are only heads on the islands is that roughly 150 sculptures on the slopes of the volcano are only revealed to the shoulders. These are the best-known, most beautiful and most photographed Easter Island sculptures, "says Van Tilburg, a partner of the Cotsen Institute of Archeology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
