On the slopes of Wangsan, South Korea rests a massive rock. Because of its quaint shape, it is known for many as a turtle rock. Originally known as Gwigamseok - a stone engraved with perfect letters, this mighty megalith is considered a powerful place of pure energy.

It weighs an incredible 127 tons and its 'shell' was intricately carved with quaint symbols and decorative patterns. The rock itself is not only beautiful and interesting, but is also considered to be one of the most efficient sources of qi energy on the surface of the planet. It is said that the one who puts his hand for a few minutes at the surface of the turtle will benefit greatly from this energy.

Gwigamseok Turtle rock is one of the three rocks in Sancheong. In addition to the turtle, we also find the 60-tune mirror rock Seokgyeong oriented to the east.

It is believed that this rock inspires energy from the sunrise and transmits it to those who touch its surface facing it. The third rock is Bokseokjeong, a large rock on its side. It is said that those who place a coin on a rock will be lucky.

Turtle rock and qi energy

It is believed qi or ch'i energy is a vital forcethat is part of all things. It translates as 'air' and figuratively as 'material energy', 'life force' or 'energy flow'. Tqi energy comes from China, but this term has spread to other countries in the Far East, such as Korea, Japan and others.

The Chinese concept of qi or chi, similar to western concepts such as magnetism, vital energy (vitalism)  is also very similar to the Hindu concept of prana, although prana is considered primarily as the energy that is obtained from the breathing air - when inhaled.

The Chinese concept of qi is also understood to be the energy of macrocosm (the entire universe) in the microcosm (the human body and its psyche). According to traditional Chinese medicine, qi's energy, flowing continuously through nature and interrupting its free flow in the body, is the basis of physical and mental disorders. Many people around the world feel the energy of qi and also believe it is real like any other form of measurable energy.

Qi energy and science

However, science has problems with qi energy. He does not accept the qi concept as a real phenomenon because it is not scientifically measurable. The controversy over qi is related to the explanation of its activity due to the action of qi as an immaterial fluid (energy). Some Qigong masters claim that they can detect and directly manipulate qi and even work with it remotely.

Traditional Qigong masters believe qi can be understood as a biological process and its efficacy can be explained in terms known to Western medicine. Turtle Rock in South Korea is considered to be a "force site" where this type of energy is recharged. Those who come in contact with the stone say that they have a sense of balance with the world, filled with energy and calm mind.
