Interactive tool (https://dinosaurpictures.org/ancient-earth#0) allows users to move to a specific site and visualize how that site has evolved between the cryogenic period and the present. About 240 million years ago, part of the country was part of a huge supercontinent known as Pangea.

Pangea

Pangea, which covered almost all of the existing earth's mass, resembled little of our present planet. Ancient Earth, the tool behind this visualization, is the spiritual child of Ian Webster. He is the curator of the largest digital database of dinosaurs in the world. Ian Webster drew on data from the PALEOMAP project, led by paleogeographer Christopher Scotes.

Users can enter a specific address or more general area, and then choose a date ranging from zero to 750 million years. Currently, the map offers 26 timeline options that travel back from the present to the cryogenic period at intervals of 15 to 150 million years. Ancient Earth includes a number of useful navigation features, including options for switching views related to globe rotation, lighting, and cloud coverage.

How to work with the application?

Brief descriptions of the selected time periods pop up in the lower left corner of the screen. The drop-down menu in the upper right corner allows users to go to specific milestones in the history. We can see the Earth at the time of the arrival of the first multicellular organisms about 600 million years ago to the delayed appearance of hominids about 20 million years ago. To switch from one time period to another, you can either manually select from the drop-down menu or use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard.

Start at the very beginning of the map timeline, advises Michele Debczak for Mental Floss. You will see the planet evolve from the "unrecognizable balls of the earth" to the vast supercontinent of Pangea and eventually to the seven continents we inhabit today. For example, 750 million years ago, Manhattan was in the middle of a giant icy mainland. Glaciers could cover the entire planet during the greatest ice age known on Earth. Go back to 500 million years ago, and New York City will appear as a small island in the Southern Hemisphere, while London, which is still part of Pangea, is almost directly adjacent to the South Pole.

Visualization should be considered indicative. It is a fun tool to bring the general population closer to the evolution of our planet. You can try everything in the application here: https://dinosaurpictures.org/ancient-earth#0
